About Us

Almondbury Community Café was an idea which originated in the Churches Together Meetings in 2000.
The aim was to work as members of the local churches together with representatives from the community
rto provide a much needed amenity in the village of Almondbury. Initial funding came from the three main churches,
Methodist. Anglican and Roman Catholic .

We are non-party political but provide accommodation for elected representatives one Thursday each month.
We have policies in operation concerning non-discrimination on grounds of race, gender, religion or disability. In conjunction with Kirklees Council we run a walking group one Wednesday each month where the local walks and history are explored.

We source all our supplies locally and where possible from local shops and we can honestly say that we are contributing to the regeneration of the village. We have no share-holders.

Any surplus is given in grants to support local organisations, projects or individuals who are working for the good of others. On average we give approximately £4000-5000 per year to support good causes.

Typically support has been given to :-

  • Local cricket clubs, especially for their work with young people
  • Local Football and Rugby teams
  • Guides, Brownies, Rainbows
  • Scouts and Cubs
  • Old peoples clubs
  • Local schools at infant, primary and secondary levels
  • Safe Anchor Trust who provide canal barge outings especially for disabled people
  • Local Community Choirs
  • Local Gala Committee
  • Local Residents Association

We give grants to local groups to help with buying equipment

Welcome to Almondbury's Community Cafe, a good place to have a coffee, tea, or a proper breakfast at a very
reasonable price, and to have a natter.
